Neuro-Fuzzy

A neuro-fuzzy system is a type of AI that is hale an artificial neural network, and half a fuzzy logic system. In effect, a neural network operating exclusively on fuzzy logic. The idea is to build a functioning artificial mind. Neural networks have the power of learning and teaching themselves new concepts, but they cannot reason. Fuzzy logic systems have the power to reason problems out but they cannot teach themselves or learn new data ? it has to be programmed into them.

By combining the two into a neuro-fuzzy system, the idea is to create a system that can teach itself and learn, whilst at the same time reasoning out everything it learns.

A product of neuroprosthetic work, the Neuro-Controlled Bionic Arm, product of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, is the first artificial limb to tap directly into the nervous system, allowing it to be moved by unconscious thought, exactly the same as the natural, original arm.

A new neuroprosthetic on the market at the end of 2009, is an attempt to actually combiine a neural activity detector and a neurostimulator into one package. Traditionally this never worked because oncethe neurostimulator activates, it blocks out all underlying brain activity in the area - the implant is only reading itself. But, what if that is the desired outcome?
