Virtual Dictionary


1. In 3D graphics, patches are another name for Higher Order Surfaces. These are sections of a 3D model that are defined by a mathematical expression rather than groups of triangles. These patches, are essentially mesh shapes that can be recreated simply by knowing the equation that generated them and any additional algorithm to deform them.

2. Patches are a colloquial term for client software updates sent out at regular or irregular intervals as the programmers of any virtual environment with engine sections on user machines, tweak the content or expand the capabilities of the virtual world.
