Phonology

Phonology is the term for the formal study of speech systems. The term can also be used to any method of structuring speech to encode meaning into the manner of applying rhythm, stress, and intonation of phonemes.

This discipline is a vital mainstay of work at creating synthetic voices that impart the same depth of meaning and inflection as their natural kin.
