Procedural Modelling

Procedural modelling is the art of creating 3D geometric shapes by means of algorithm, rather than manually crafting nodes and lines together into polygons. Procedure generated models are often primitive shapes ? spheres, cones, cuboids, and spirals. However, it is possible to generate quite complex shapes procedurally, by mixing said primitives together to create gestalt shapes.

Podcast: Procedural Content Generation & Spore
A 90 minute long podcast between two of the greats of the procedural content paradigm: Will Wright and Brian Eno. The discussion crosses every aspect of content generation, with generative system basics, SimCity, emergent behaviours in music, DNA strands creating life, and the Sims. The talk culminates in a half-hour run through of the game Spore.

Not a platform or modelling software specific book, Modelling Digital Dinosaurs is Ken?s first book, and it takes you through the basics of creating 3D representations of something which has fascinated and captivated for centuries ? dinosaurs. The book does this in a patient, kind, step by step manner, demonstrating techniques which really aid the beginning to intermediate modeller. Contains a free copy of Amapi version 1.5 on the CD in case the reader does not have a 3D modeller.
