Stochastic Raytracing

Stochastic Raytracing, often termed Distributed Raytracing, is the most powerful raytracing method currently employed. It simulates simulating the diffuse light distribution and reflection in three-dimensional environments near perfectly. The downside is, it takes a lot of heavy computing power to do this, and is completely useless for real-time, dynamic lighting of a scene using current technology, and for the foreseeable future.

Distributed Raytracing is a brute force method to create effects like anti aliasing or motion blur. The raytracer tends to continue in methodical fashion, in a forwards raytracing style, until every pixel in sight has been hit anywhere from 25 to 64 times. Thus a complete picture of the lighting and shadows, accurate to the smallest possible degree, is produced.
