A Virtual Museum to preserve the Physical

It is called the Virtual Museum of Archaeology, despite being a very physical building, because it doers not actually have any exhibits. MAV stands as an attempt to use virtual reality in a physical museum, in lieu of actual exhibits. This is because in order to take exhibits, they would have to gut Herculaneum itself.

The ruins are being gutted anyway, of course. Each tourist to stroll through them takes a piece home, pokes a wall, gouges out some mortar, or otherwise erodes it a little more. The damage is starting to add up, and there are concerns Herculaneum will be lost forever.
