The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar is the new name of Turbine Entertainment's Middle-earth Online, the MMO based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. A re-branding has followed the developer's announcement back in March that it had snaffled exclusive rights to both develop and publish MMO titles based on Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. New screens from Shadows of Angmar have been released.

No prizes for guessing that The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar offers up adventure in Middle-earth for thousands, players roaming around the likes of The Shire, Rivendell and Bree. It seems as though the initial release will only feature locations from LOTR part one The Fellowship of the Ring, with Turbine presumably expanding the game world as time progresses. Unite in fellowship, give Sauron's minions a good duffing and then retire to Bag End for tea and biscuits.

The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar is expected to launch next year.
