Robert Hoerr and colleagues at the University of Minnesota have come up with amethod for adding anti-inflamatory and anti-rejection drugs, along with anti-infection, and whatever else might be desired, to the coating of a prosthetic implant, on a reliable, long-term time delay, lasting months.

The idea is to mix the drug with a dielectric solvent and then atomise the mixture to create an aerosol in which the droplets are charged. Then, apply the opposing charge to the implant, and a coating forms evenly throughout.
