Its not really surprising that someone thought up this idea for one of the newest virtual worlds, it does kinda make sense that the porn industry would see value in the virtual.

Red Light World, the latest graphical virtual environment is a fully-featured red light district full of porn shops, prostitution, strip clubs, and a lot of other highly X-rated content. People participate by logging on, taking control of an avatar, and parousing just like they would any other graphical, virtual environment.

The concept has actually been backed by a XXX-site coalition, who use the world to sell their services - walking into individual shops, and bars along the street takes you to the paid-services of various nefarious venders. Basically, its a huge, virtual shopping centre - just one with a novel theme.

Ironically, this world might be exactly what VR e-commerce needs. Because of the subject matter, and the very real, albeit anonymous services behind it, coupled with the trie anomymity - for BOTH genders - Red Light World has the potential to be a killer app for VR e-commerce.
