An explanation by Ray Kurzweil, futurist, has been made available online by the Washington Post, explaining how whilst in the last four decades, computing power has only increased one billion fold, the rate of change is such that, in the next 25 years, it will increase a billionfold again, over what we have now, with the time frame between such magnitudes of improvement continuing to drastically shrink.
