This story is from the category Life
Date posted: 19/08/2004
Those of us in the industry, or on its fringes have known about this for some time, but theBBC, a mainstream news service have now picked up the MMO grosse national product per capita (GNP) totals, which show that the largest MMOs actually contribute to the world economy, somewhere in-between the contributions of Jamaica and Nambia.
Prof Edward Castronova, industry stalwart, and MMO economics expert, assumed, based on his earlier study, that the average gross domestic product of each of the two million or so permanent virtual world dwellers is $2,000 (?1,087). Namibia has about two million people and, according to World Bank figures, a gross national income of $1,790. The two figures are comparable, and MMOs are still growing exponentially.
