DoCoMo tests 1 Gbps downloads
This story is from the category Connectivity
Date posted: 20/12/2004
Japan's mobile phone giant, NTT DoCoMo, announced last Friday (18th Dec) that it has succeeded in maintaining a 1 Gbps download rate for mobile phones in a test network, running fourth generation (4G) connectivity. The company has announced it will be field-trialing this 4G system next year.
Japan and Korea regularly use 10 mbps as a minimum baseline connection for their people, with 25 mpbs, or even 100 mbps still common. With this in mind, it is no surprise that Japanese regulators are paving the way for commercial 4G service by 2010.
