This single still from the widescreen version of ?Final Flight of the Osiris?, one of the Animatrix animated shorts has been considerably scaled back from the original material. Yet, you can still see one remarkable aspect about it: It is as photo-real as a scene from any blockbuster movie.
This is the thing about CG animation in passives that often goes unnoticed. If the entire film is CG, then the level of CG used in the special effects is by nature as good as, or more usually, higher quality than the CG used in mixed live action and animated productions.
You would in fact, be hard pressed to tell any difference whatsoever between the CG shots of Final Flight of the Osiris, and CG shots in the film Matrix Reloaded, which built on it. It is when you stop and think about it, a rather stark example of the trend in which eventually all passive VR (films) could quite easily be CG, and lose none of the quality of today?s live action.
