Resource Database
> Research Initiatives
An alphabetic listing of academic projects, both current and completed, that have direct bearing on VR and its related fields.
This category will become quite long, over time. It serves to make the process of finding an acronym that happens to match a normal word, somewhat easer.
Sections
CLASS
CLASS, or 'Cognitive-Level Annotation using latent Statistical Structure', was a three year research project to improve machine vision algorithms and allow recognition of partially deformed or occluded objects.
HoloVision
HoloVision project, was created in 2004, and expired in mid 2008. Its purpose was to pursue the technology of holographic 3D visualization, put simply. It invented new technologies as it went along, as an European Union project.
OSIRIS
OSIRIS, or Original System for Image Rendition via Innovative Screens, is a research initiative focussed on technologies to advance holographic and augmented reality display capabilities - basically to advance things a step further towards holodecks. OSIRIS takes over where its sister project, HoloVision, left off.
SEMAINE
SEMAINE, or Sustained Emotionally coloured Machine-human Interaction using Non-verbal Expression, is a research project, trying to create open source AI software that can recognise non-verbal communication, and interact with a human on that basis.
