Procedural Texture

A procedural texture is a texturemap bitmap produced in real-time via code procedures. They typically include noise functions and adhere to specified parameter ranges in order to create a totally unique texture which looks convincingly real, yet is not stored anywhere.

An advantage of procedural textures is that a wide range of effects can be created without overfilling the graphics card buffer, as all are derived from the same base elements.
