Podcast DescriptionAt The Entertainment Gathering on December 12th 2008, Tan Le, co-founder and president of Emotiv Systems, gave a live demo of EPOC, her non-invasive brain machine interface system. EPOC is a brain-machine interface intended for the commercial gaming market. The intent is to allow gamers and by extension those in social virtual worlds, to control their actions within the game/environment with their thoughts, expressions and emotions. Her talk focusses both on the technology, and the human angle - usually over shared dinners - that lead to the creation of Emotiv systems, directly because of the desire to create EPOC. She looks at how communication between individuals is more than just explicit expression, it is gesture based, body language and implicit content. This is an area completely lacking in communication with machines.Tan and her firm believe that this is where the next paradigm of user interface is based round - brain interaction, allowing the full reportoire of communication signals to be dynamically conveyed without overall conscious effort. Presenter BiographiesTan LeTan Le is an Australian telecommunications entrepreneur, businesswoman and the 1998 Young Australian of the Year. She is president and co-founder of Emotiv Systems.
