The title ?technical handbook? is a bit of a misnomer for this useful book. It is entirely platform independent, and as the book description says:

The Computer Animator's Technical Handbook intentionally stays away from the specifics of hardware and software, thus ensuring a shelf life longer than most computers. The book focuses on the driving ideas behind animation in general and computer animation in particular, and it offers a valuable historical perspective on contemporary terms.

In other words, it?s a dictionary of 2D and 3D computer modelling terminology. At 455 pages, it is a very good dictionary, covering a great many terms, however, it tries to dress itself up to be more than that. It?s not.
