Not exactly the 'razor sharp' thriller the box offers, eXistenZ is still a film worthy to be in the collection of any developer.

Why? Because the film is a poinant reminder of the dangers of over-immersion. Not a threat just yet, it will be one day, and this whole film is a look at what happens when the virtual becomes so real that we can't tell the difference any more - albeit in a very disterbed, and inwardly collapsing virtual reality.

Like all films, the world of eXistenZ is flawed - it doesn't portray a true virtual world, merely the filmmaker's inpressions of one. Nonetheless, if you look past this, to the core of the film, this is indeed a powerful lesson to bear in mind for our future...
