Landform

A landform is a single geographical feature of a landscape, when considered as a discrete entity. A sea is a landform, a lake is a landform. One individual hill is a landform, complete with all individual elements on it.

When in the initial stages of constructing a virtual environment, it often makes the most sense to work with landforms ? specific types of terrain and specific large scale pieces of terrain that often have randomised surfaces of that type. Thus it becomes relatively easy to lay down bulk features as a series of landforms rather than thousands of individual objects.
