BAN

A body area network or BAN is a very young concept in computing. The first BANs being proposed in mid 2009. In concept it is quite simple and elegant. In execution perhaps less so. A BAN is literally what it sounds like; a computer network surrounding a user's body and extending no more than perhaps a few centimetres from them.

The BAN consists of all wearable computing devices stitched into their clothes, their mobile phone, iPod, augmented vision system, and even prosthetics and implants inside them. All communicating together as and when they need to for optimum function.

The obvious exit point from the BAN to the outside world is the mobile phone, as it has integral to itself, a firewall, and provisions for safe interconnection with other, untrusted systems.
